Watercolour on paper of Tulipa attributed to the artist August Wilhelm Sievert from an album of bound watercolours and drawings titled ‘Hortus florum imaginum’ dating from c.1730. Wilhelm Sievert was active in the 1720s-1740s; from 1727 he was the botanical artist and Inspector of gardens to Karl Wilhelm, Markgraf von Baden-Durlach, Germany. Eleven of the drawings in this folio are also reproduced c 1760-80’s as hand coloured engravings in C J Trew’s book ‘Hortus Nitidissimus’
