Life on Our Planet required eight detailed pen and ink illustrations, reflecting animals and plants that Sir David Attenborough discusses in this important and timely text.  There was also a map to complete.

Many of the illustrations were straight forward, however reconstructing the extinct Tarpan horse, and fitting the enormous bulk of a Blue whale and the height of Giant kelp onto one sheet posed their own peculiar challenges.

This is the most prestigious of all the titles I have worked on, and I am extremely proud to be associated with this publication.

Gathering Moss by Robin Wall Kimmerer explains the cultural history and biology of moss, with a steady eye on humanity and our interraction with nature over time.

My illustration of the Wooly fringe moss Racomitrium lanuginosum was used on the cover of this book.

This book is based on the successful BBC World Service podcast, this book explains how animals have inspired human ingenuity and invention.  Find out how mosquito mouthparts make less painful hypodermic syringes, how fuel injection systems are more efficient thanks to the example of the Bombadier beetle, how mussels have helped foetal surgery, kingfisher beaks made bullet trains more efficient, and the properties of shark skin that have led to more hygienic hospital surfaces.

The illustrations were of the animals, and of the inventions they inspired, and as such were technically challenging.  It’s a fascinating book, with hundreds of “Oh WoW!” moments, and I’m very pleased to be associated with the project

The Living Wisdom of Trees required More than 120 detailed pen and ink illustrations of trees and details of each species, from the Acaccia to the Willow (and everything in between).  Published February 2020.

Set of 62 plates for Collins Flower Guide .  My plates included Lamiaceae, Grasses, Pond-weeds, Campanulaceae, Boraginaceae, some Asteraceae, and a wide diversity of other native European wild flower species.  Each plate consisted of up to 12 different plants, illustrated to scale and with botanical details provided as full colour vginettes, or (in the case of grasses) as pen and ink illustrations.

Sketchbook illustrations for The Hedgerow Handbook.  Series of mixed media studies of wild flowers and plants, taken from my sketchbooks.  All the plants featured in this classic book are edible, and easy to find in the countryside of Britian and Northern Europe.  Pencil, watercolour, and pen drawings.

Diagrams for many of the Bloomsbury RSPB Spotlight series.  Titles illustrated include: Spotlight on Ladybirds, Spotlight on Swifts, Spotlight on Woodpeckers, Spotlight on Sparrows, Spotlight on Gulls, Spotlight on Bumble bees.  Diagrams are pen and ink with colour top wash.

Sketchbook illustrations for The Garden Forager, companion volume to the highly successful “Hedgerow Handbook”.  Series of mixed media studies of cultivated garden plants, taken from my sketchbooks.  All the plants featured in this classic book are edible, and easy to find in gardens and garden centres in Europe, North America, and beyond.  Pencil, watercolour, and pen drawings.

Natural history illustrations to accompany this book on getting out of doors and experiencing nature year round.  My illustrations included mammals, wild flowers, Dragonflies and damselflies, and Reptiles.

Illustrations and diagrams for Japanese Knotweed: Unearthing the Truth.  These include illustrations of the knotweed plant and its details, along side diagrams explaining processes such as photosynthesis and transpiration.

Botanical illustrations of grasses and crops for Das Freudenberger Grunlandbuch.  This book is in German, and acts as an advisory to arable farmers.

Step by step illustrations and diagrams for The Complete Naturalist.  These include instructions on examining and seeking out wildlife, and how to encourage wild animals and plants.
