    Summary of the film

This real time film shows Lizzie illustrating the Bird’s-foot trefoil plant, an important wild flower for many Butterfly species in the UK.

She explains how to construct an illustration, how to use push-through paper (aka trace-down), then takes you through the steps involved in adding watercolour to leaves, stems, and flowers; and finally shows you how to add shadows to your illustration.

She also discusses the plant itself, its importance to UK butterflies, and why it’s good for farmers as well as for wildlife charities.

This film was made for Butterfly Conservation UK, as part of their “Chequered Skippers: Taking Flight” project.

If you enjoy the film, please consider donating to help Butterfly Conservation with their work: https://butterfly-conservation.org/how-you-can-help/give-money

The film references an equipment list, reference material, and a template that were made available to participants of the online workshop. The Funding for the film is from Government’s Green Recovery Challenge Fund , DEFRA, The National Lottery Heritage fund, Natural England, the Environment Agency and (of course) Butterfly Conservation UK.
