Hi Peter

Ive never even heard of this, let alone seen it! Hertfordshire's a ways away from me here in the Welsh borders, but if you have a grid ref I could go and seek it out, if I'm in the area. It sounds fascinating! Thanks so much for telling me about it.

Have you seen Ranunculus Arvensis, the Corn Buttercup. It has unusual pentagonal seed pods with flat sides. The sides also have pointy "horns" sticking out of them. I know of a site in N Hertfordshire where you could see them growing, and possibly collect samples for drawing.

Feel free to contact me for more details.

I know, it's very interesting how some species in a family or genus seem really different to others. And you're right, all parts of the buttercup contain the toxic ranunculin. Maybe it's not present in Nigella? Thanks for your kind comments about my work!

I love your illustrations and blog. I didn't know Nigella was in the Buttercup family. This surprised me because, as you say, many members are poisonous yet the Nigella seed is used in cooking in the Middle East.

Hi Cw

No, Ive not seen that one. It sounds like a beauty! Dont think its a UK species, or I would have been out there trying to track it down! Thanks, and sorry not to be more use.
